It’s one of the least popular luxury hybrids in the world, but at six years old, the current 2012 Lexus LS600h L — just like the rest of the Lexus LS family —  is starting to show its age. 
Which is why Toyota has been working hard on a complete redesign of the Lexus LS range, which it will unveil to the world on July 30 at an exclusive invitation-only event in San Francisco.
The epitome of Lexus luxury, its flagship long-wheelbase hybrid sedan has only been on sale since 2007, but has won buyers thanks to a slightly better gas mileage over its non-hybrid sibling. 
But while there’s no doubting its impressive 389 horsepower, 385 pound-feet of torque, powerful electric motor and 5.0-liter V8 engine give great performance through its full-time all-wheel drive system, the LS600h L isn’t all that great on gas mileage.

Compared with other luxury cars, like the 31-mpg combined 2012 Mercedes-Benz S350 BlueTec and the equally economical upcoming Audi A8 Hybrid, the 21-mpg combined EPA rating of the elderly LS600h L is starting to look a little…poor. 
There’s very little known about the redesigned LS range, although a few teaser images show a clearly redesigned front end.
But with five years of Toyota hybrid drivetrain evolution, we’re confident the redesigned LS600h L will improve on its previous gas mileage.
Just like everyone else, we’ll have to wait until July 30 to find out more.
