Seems like just yesterday that we wrote about the very first Chevrolet Volt delivery–in December 2010, actually.
Now the range-extended electric car is about to enter its fourth model year.
So far, we don’t know a lot about changes to the 2014 Volt beyond the addition of two new colors: Brownstone Metallic and Ashen Grey Metallic.
The new 2014 Volt colors were announced on April 1 on the ChevroletVoltAge site.
The post was originally an April Fool’s joke, showing a nonexistent new Volt color–salmon pink metallic–that was later updated to announce the actual new colors.
We might point out that if the 2013 Chevrolet Spark we tested last summer is any indicator, salmon pink metallic might not be such a stretch for Chevy.
Our Spark was painted in a color Chevrolet deems “Techno Pink,” but that most observers called just “pink” or “purple.”
In any case, if rumors out of Detroit are correct, the Volt will continue largely unchanged through the 2015 model year.
But an all-new Volt–very possibly on its own dedicated platform, according to GM North America Mark Reuss–may arrive sometime during 2015 as a 2016 model.
Among rumored changes is the possibility that it might switch from its current 1.4-liter four-cylinder range-extending engine to a new, smaller 1.2-liter three-cylinder that GM is currently developing.
Meanwhile, the 2014 (and perhaps 2015) Volt is likely to be largely a carryover vehicle, with only modest changes.
That’s essentially what the 2013 Volt was last year, although its EPA-rated range increased from 35 to 38 miles.
Chevrolet dealers will start taking orders for 2014 Volts in late May.
