As part of the Toyota empire, Lexus was one of the first carmakers to realize the potential of hybrids, and the company now has a wide range of hybrids, competing in several market classes.
So successful has Lexus’s hybrid range been, that the company has now sold over half a million–and with new models on the horizon, their popularity is only set to continue.
We’ve written about all of these vehicles here on Green Car Reports, so we’ve compiled information on each vehicle for a handy guide to the Lexus hybrid range.
Click on the make and model to go to our full review of each car (where available), or select one of the links to find out more. On page three, you can discover the brand’s new and future models–as well as details on several Lexus concept vehicles.

2014 Lexus CT 200h
The CT 200h is the smallest Lexus hybrid, and the first dedicated hybrid in the Lexus range. To the untrained eye it looks like any other Lexus, but beneath the skin is running gear from the all-conquering Toyota Prius, so efficiency is built-in.
For buyers, it offers many of the benefits of the Prius, but with a dash of extra prestige. Lexus has updated the CT 200h for the 2014 model year, and it now features the familiar ‘Spindle’ grille design common to other Lexus. It isn’t any more efficient, but it isn’t any more expensive either – you can read the full details in our most recent article.

Replacing the lackluster HS 250h, the ES 300h is a much more polished affair. Taking design cues from the aggressive GS 450h on the inside and out, the ES 300h actually shares the Toyota Camry Hybrid’s innards–a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder, paired with an electric motor–giving it efficiency not far off the smaller CT 200h.

The 2013 Lexus GS 450h is quite a step up from the previous model in several areas. It looks better, it’s more efficiency, it’s quicker and the interior is up there with the best in the class. It’s a hybrid that even gearheads would consider owning, but in our experience from early drives, it’s also capable of matching its official EPA figures.

Unlike the GS 450h, the RX struggles to match is official EPA figures, but it can still return better city figures than virtually any other SUV. That’s not bad considering the 3.5-liter gasoline V-6 under the hood, and buyers have options of front- or four-wheel drive. Naturally, the front-drive model is a little more efficient. Disappointing real-world numbers or not, the RX is still a top luxury hybrid choice.

New and future models
The old Lexus LS 600h was never the most efficient of hybrid models, and at 20 mpg combined, the new 2013 Lexus LS 600h isn’t a great deal better. It does have striking styling however, reminiscent of the current GS series. And with 438 horsepower from its V-8 gasoline engine and hybrid system, it’s clear who this is a hybrid for–those wishing to minimize the gas-guzzling from extra performance, rather than maximize economy. You’ll find a video road test of the LS 600h here.
Likely to be more economical, and probably more fun, is the 2014 Lexus IS. This was previewed as the Lexus LF-CC concept at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, and subsequently launched at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. Sadly, there are no plans to bring the IS 300h hybrid model Stateside. You can read more about the IS hybrid below, as well as the RC 300h coupe previewed at the Tokyo Motor Show:

The RX 450h may be the most successful Lexus hybrid model, but one future arrival could topple it–the NX 300h. Expected to be a small hybrid crossover, likely based on the Toyota RAV4, it’s likely to share the drivetrain of the ES 300h. But as the popularity of crossovers improves, a small hybrid variant could be arriving just at the right time.
The NX will probably be quite a striking vehicle if its concept is anything to go by. Shown in full at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show, the LF-NX concept took more than a few passers-by by surprise. We expect it’ll be toned down a little for production. You can read more on the unusually-styled vehicle here:
