Lexus has confirmed that its 2014 IS sedan will debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show next month.
Continuing the marque’s trend towards hybrid models, the range will also tout a hybrid–though it hasn’t yet been confirmed whether such a model will hit the U.S. market.
Automobile Magazine (via Motor Authority) has already driven a prototype of the new IS, in IS 350 F-Sport guise.
The IS 350 is also set to be joined by a base IS 250 model, and the new hybrid.
The hybrid, named IS 300h, is expected will use a drivetrain derived from that of the LF-CC hybrid coupe concept, shown at recent auto shows.
It’s expected to develop 240 horsepower and reach 60 mph in around 7 seconds. That power is put through a CVT transmission. It’s also said to weigh around 3,900 pounds, a symptom of sharing its platform with the larger GS.
We don’t yet know what fuel economy figures Lexus is expecting, but like several other Lexus hybrids a sporty F-Sport model will be available, and a coupe model is likely.
Lexus will once again major on refinement and comfort, but the company has been benchmarking with the BMW 3-Series, in order to endow the new IS with a sportier feel than the last model–so we could be looking at yet another fun-to-drive hybrid on the way.
