Nissan has announced the recall of a number of 2014 model year Leaf electric cars, regarding a front structural member assembly.
According to the recall report, the front structural member on affected vehicles may be missing welds, affecting its structural integrity in a crash, in turn increasing the risk of injury to the vehicle’s occupants.

The company will notify owners with affected vehicles and their local dealers, to have the vehicle inspected for missing welds. Any car missing the required welds will be replaced by Nissan, free of charge.
Only 211 vehicles in the U.S., plus 65 more in Canada, are even being recalled for inspection.
Of those, Nissan expects only a “handful” to need replacement. Nissan spokesman Brian Brockman told us it would be “a very small percentage” of the total number of cars recalled.
Those affected have build dates between February 28, 2014 through March 12, 2014.

The weld recall is the second Leaf recall in the last few months. Back in March, Nissan recalled over 29,000 Leafs to fix an airbag sensor software issue. Affected vehicles were given a free software update to correct the problem.
No accidents or injuries have been reported regarding either recent recall.
The latest recall is listed under NHTSA campaign number 14V192000. Leaf owners can contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261, or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
