The Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid crossover will finally arrive in the U.S. later this year.
After many delays, the plug-in crossover is expected to hit showrooms this summer, based on the refreshed Outlander unveiled last year.
But one notable piece of equipment found on European and Japanese models may be missing from the U.S. version.

The Outlander Plug-In Hybrid won’t be sold here with CHAdeMO DC fast-charging capability, according to Automotive News (subscription required).
A U.S.-spec version of the Outlander Plug-In Hybrid display at a recent Mitsubishi event reportedly did not have a CHAdeMO port.
Instead, a piece of plastic covered the area where the port is located on models sold outside the U.S.
Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid – UK versionMitsubishi currently offers CHAdeMO fast charging on the all-electric i-MiEV, and it’s used by the Nissan Leaf and Kia Soul EV as well.
But Mitsubishi won’t offer the option on the Outlander because it believes there aren’t enough CHAdeMO stations in the U.S. to make it worthwhile, Ken Konieczka–Mitsubishi Motors North America vice president of sales operations–told Automotive News.

DC fast-charging stations are generally harder to find than 240-volt Level 2 AC stations, largely because of their higher cost and electricity demands.
Yet there are still many more CHAdeMO stations than there are stations using the Combined Charging Standard (CCS) favored by most U.S. and German carmakers.
In addition, Tesla Motors has its own Supercharger standard, which is only compatible with the company’s cars.
2015 Mitsubishi Outlander (left) and 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander (right)The Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid was first previewed as a concept at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show, and was originally slated to go on sale in the U.S. in 2013.
But the launch was pushed back so many times that the Outlander received a fairly extensive mid-cycle refresh along the way.

That at least means the U.S.-spec Outlander Plug-In Hybrid will benefit from upgrades made to the rest of the Outlander lineup–even if it doesn’t get CHAdeMO fast charging.
The plug-in crossover will reportedly make its public debut at the 2016 New York Auto Show in March, and go on sale a few months after that.
