The Ford C-Max tall wagon is about to get an “extreme makeover.”
At least, that’s Ford calls the collection of styling and equipment changes it will unveil September 17, ahead of a public debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
After its European unveiling, the C-Max will arrive in the U.S., likely as a 2016 model.
The updates will likely be similar to those given to the 2015 Ford Focus compact, meaning they’ll probably fall a little short of “makeover” status but will still be meaningful.

A version of the large hexagonal grille that debuted on the Focus Electric, and has migrated to internal-combustion Focus models, can be seen peeking out of the tarp in Ford’s teaser image.
The 2015 Focus also received a handful of new technology features–including an updated Sync with MyFord Touch infotainment system–and they could find their way into the C-Max as well, where applicable.
2015 Ford C-Max HybridWhile the C-Max is offered with several gasoline and diesel powertrains in Europe, expect Ford to continue to offer hybrid powertrains only in the U.S.
The current C-Max Hybrid uses a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine, electric motor, and 1.4-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. The combination produces 188 horsepower and is rated at 40 mpg combined (42 mpg city, 37 mpg highway) by the EPA.

The C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid uses the same powertrain, but with a larger, 7.6-kWh battery pack. It’s rated at 88 MPGe combined, with 19 miles of electric-only range.
However, Ford has had to reduce the C-Max models’ gas-mileage ratings twice, after investigations found they don’t hold up in the real world.
