Fisker EMotion 400-mile luxury electric car: new teaser photo releasedFisker EMotion 400-mile luxury electric car: new teaser photo released

We’ve seen it teased a couple of times in shadowy photos, and now we have the first renderings of the whole car.
In this case, “it” is the Fisker EMotion, the latest striking, low-slung sedan drawn by car designer Henrik Fisker.
This is to be the second car to bear his name, following the 2012 collapse and subsequent sale of Fisker Automotive.
[UPDATE: The dribble of teaser images continue, with another one released this week, this time of a red Fisker EMotion from the rear. We’ve added that shot to this earlier article, first published on November 1, 2016.]
DON’T MISS: New Fisker electric car: ‘butterfly doors’ … but strange hype too?
Unlike the 2012 Fisker Karma, however, the new Fisker EMotion is an electric car rather than a plug-in hybrid.
And Fisker claims the EMotion will have up to 400 miles of range from innovative new lithium-ion cell technology using graphene electrodes.
That battery, the company said last month, is being refined at a Fisker subsidiary, using innovations developed by researchers at the University of California—Los Angeles.

Aluminum and carbon-fiber construction will lower vehicle weight, also helping to boost the range.
The new Fisker will also offer a top speed of 161 mph, the company claims—although as with all electric cars, it will deliver only a fraction of its maximum range at that speed.
A pair of renderings of the new vehicle were released yesterday, showing not only a front three-quarter view but also an unshadowed image of the front end.

The front of the EMotion has some similarities to Fisker’s design for the Dodge Viper-based Force 1 supercar unveiled at the 2016 Detroit auto show by VLF Automotive.
It’s rumored that VLF, based outside Detroit in Auburn Hills, Michigan, will build the new EMotion if the design goes into production as Fisker intends.
Fisker said the new car’s low hood reduces aerodynamic drag. The small trapezoid above the license plate, flanked by the LED headlights, holds both a camera and a radar sensor.

Naturally, the EMotion is designed from the outset to incorporate self-driving technologies, to be provided by a third party that will work with Fisker Inc. to incorporate it.
The EMotion will not only have butterfly doors, for ease of access, Fisker said, but will offer “superb rear legroom” and more interior volume than the car that appears to be its main rival, the Tesla Model S.
“Fisker has taken advantage of the newly developed electric powertrain layout by pushing the vehicle’s entire interior compartment forward and increasing the wheelbase,” said the company in a release, “a layout that increases the interior space.”
CHECK OUT: Electric cars will overtake plug-in hybrids, says Henrik Fisker
The car won’t debut until the second half of next year, Fisker said, and production plans won’t come until after that.
Pricing will parallel that of high-end Model S variants, likely meaning a six-figure starting price.
As for VLF, it was previously VL Automotive until Fisker joined to give it the “F.”
Henrik Fisker
The company was founded by former GM product czar Bob Lutz and industrialist Gilbert Villareal, and may be best known for its VLF Destino.
That vehicle is a Fisker Karma with a new front end and a powerful Corvette V-8 engine that replaces all the plug-in hybrid running gear.
The Karma itself, meanwhile, is now in the process of being relaunched as the Karma Revero by Chinese owner Wanxiang
