As the 2017 Karma Revero gets closer to its official launch later this year, its maker has released the first official photo of the luxury plug-in hybrid sedan.
The rebooted Karma is a modified and updated version of the car previously sold in 2012 as the Fisker Karma, before its maker shut down production and later declared bankruptcy.
The Karma will now be built in Southern California by Karma Automotive, a company formed after Chinese auto-parts maker Wanxiang bought the remains of Fisker Automotive.

It also bought the remains of A123 Systems, the lithium-ion cell maker that had supplied the battery packs for the Fisker Karma.
But the new Karma company hasn’t released any technical details of the 2017 version, so its battery specifications remain unclear.
The company describes the new 2017 Revero as a “much-anticipated” vehicle that delivers “a combination of advanced technology and timeless design.”
Karma Revero
“Each Revero is truly unique,” the press release gushes, “with individually crafted details like hand-painted badges on the front and rear of every vehicle.”
It also notes that the Revero will be sold with a “solar roof that will power the vehicle.”

The previous Fisker version also had photovoltiac solar cells on its roof, but at best they could add 1 or 2 miles of battery range if the car were exposed to maximum sunshine for a week.
The details of the claim that the solar roof “powers” the Revero remain to be released as well.
2012 Fisker Karma
“While the look is familiar, much of the technology has changes,” the release notes, “including a completely redesigned infotainment system and super-charging capabilities.”
(We’re curious to know how Tesla Motors feels about those “super-charging capabilities,” given the existence of its unique Supercharger network of DC fast-charging sites.)
Karma Automotive has reached out to the 2,000 or more existing owners of 2012 Fisker Karmas, giving them the ability to reserve a new Revero before reservations open to the general public on September 8.
CHECK OUT: Karma Revero (nee Fisker) to blend dealers and Tesla-like showrooms
With a six-figure price tag expected and an electric range of perhaps 40 miles, the 2017 Karma Revero seems likely to be a low-volume entry into the high-end luxury market.
Indeed, the company says as much.
“Serving a mass market is not, and never will be, our purpose,” says Jim Taylor, Chief Revenue Officer. “The Revero is for a discerning group of individuals who desire beautiful, clean vehicles and a memorable ownership experience.”
