The Renault-Nissan Alliance has sold more electric cars than any other company, with most of those sales coming from the Nissan brand.
The Nissan Leaf is the bestselling electric car in history, and is popular in multiple markets.
But so far in 2016, at least, it’s Renault that is leading the charge in European electric-car sales.

The Renault Zoe is currently the best-selling electric car in Europe, according to a running tally kept by the European Alternative Fuels Observatory (EAFO).
The little hatchback racked up 2,978 sales in the first three two months of 2016, giving it 12.6 percent of the market, according to the EAFO.
Its Nissan Leaf compatriot was fairly close behind, with 2,582 sales.

That puts the Leaf pretty far ahead of the third-best seller, the Volkswagen e-Golf, with 1,500 sales.
The Tesla Model S is listed in fourth place with 1,197 sales.
Tesla doesn’t release monthly sales figures, so it’s unclear how that figure was calculated.

It may have been extrapolated from the company’s quarterly sales report released earlier this week, or based on individual country registration data.
Further down the rankings are the BMW i3 (1,004 sales), Kia Soul EV (700 sales), and Mercedes-Benz B250e (436 sales).
The bottom three cars in the top 10—the Volkswagen e-Up, Peugeot iOn, and Citroën C-Zero—are smaller models not sold in the U.S.

The e-Up, which recorded 433 sales, is an electric version of the VW Up city car.
The Peugeot and Citroën—which achieved 405 and 324 sales, respectively—are both re-badged versions of the Mitsubishi i-MiEV.
Plug-in hybrids: Mitsubishi leads
It may not be scheduled to go on sale in the U.S. until later this year, but the Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid is currently the bestselling vehicles of its kind in Europe.

With 2,528 sales, it surpassed the Volkswagen Golf GTE’s 1,523 sales, and the 1,282 sales of the Volvo XC90 T8 “Twin Engine.”
Just outside of the top three is the Audi A3 Sportback e-tron, with 1,247 sales, followed by the BMW X5 xDrive 40e, with 825 sales.
Further down were the Mercedes-Benz C350e, with 689 sales, and Volkswagen Passat GTE, with 648 sales.

The range-extended BMW i3 REx is considered a plug-in hybrid for the purposes of the EAFO rankings.
It apparently makes up a much smaller portion of i3 sales in Europe, with just 558 sales so far this year.
At the bottom of the plug-in hybrid rankings are plug-in versions of the Volvo V60 wagon (524 sales), and Porsche Cayenne SUV (484 sales).
