General Motors is recalling most of its 2014 Cadillac ELR luxury range-extended electric coupes for faulty stability-control software.
The recall will correct a problem with the diagnostic function of the software that controls the electronic stability control (ESC) in approximately 656 ELRs built between September 26, 2013, and February 14, 2014.
The software issue prevents the system from self-diagnosing certain problems and alerting the driver. In the affected cars, ESC may be deactivated without the driver’s knowledge.
Consequently, ELR owners could be driving their cars without functioning stability control, which will cause the car to react differently in certain situations and lower the threshold for loss of control.

To correct the problem, Cadillac dealers will recalibrate the affected cars’ electronic brake control modules, free of charge.
The recall is expected to begin April 17, and GM will notify owners whose ELRs require the software fix.
Owners can also contact Cadillac at 1-800-458-8006, and reference GM recall number 14087.
The recall notice can be found at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Safercar.gov website under ID number 14V144000.
