Compared with the task of enticing regular buyers into electric cars, offloading electric supercars onto the super-rich is an easy task.
The usual limitations of range or cost don’t matter to buyers with dozens of other cars and money to burn, so the $980,000 Rimac Concept_One will sell itself.
In fact, it’ll be selling itself fairly soon, as Wired reveals that Rimac has started taking orders for the Concept_One.
First revealed at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, the Concept_One originates from Croatia–not a country known for its supercar heritage. Founder Mate Rimac certainly believes that electric vehicles are the future of performance cars.
“I believe that the electric motor is a much better machine compared to the ICE, in almost all aspects, especially for a sports car,” he told Wired. Some may be skeptical of that claim, but with a power output of 1,088 horsepower, the Concept_One is the real deal.
Buyers will have access to a 185mph-limited top speed, and 0-62mph in only 2.8 seconds. If you’re expecting that to result in a tiny range, you might be surprised–as Rimac is claiming 372 miles on a charge–though perhaps not at 185mph…
Like many supercars, it requires unique tires. In this case though, it’s not solely down to the car’s performance. With an electric motor for each wheel, the Concept_One uses bespoke Vredestein Ultrac Vorti tires with a Y-rating–capable of sustained speeds of 190mph.
It’s fast, sexy, and exclusive too–only 88 will be made.
Even at nearly $1 million, Rimac should have no trouble selling every single one of its cars, and each will surely be flanked by Bugatti Veyrons and Ferrari Enzos in their buyers’ dream garages…
