Earlier today, our colleagues over at MotorAuthority told us about a collection of over 100 rare cars going under the hammer in Sweden.
Among them, a complete EV-1.
Complete with aerodynamic coupe styling, solar-powered cooling fan and a film appearance under its belt, bidding for this futuristic car will be accepted by post or fax between now and Friday, January 20. 
But before you get too excited, this ruby red sports coupe isn’t an example of the much-missed EV-1 electric car that General Motors made in the 1990s. 
In fact, this particular EV-1 predates the all-electric two-seater that became famous in the 2006 film Who Killed The Electric Car?
Saab EV-1 Experimental Vehicle
Enter the Saab 900 Turbo Experimental Vehicle One, or EV-1 for short. 
Part of Saab’s heritage collection, the Saab EV-1 is being sold off along with more than 100 other pristine classic cars following Saab’s recent bankruptcy. 
Based loosely on the 1985 Saab 900 Turbo, the Saab EV-1 is powered by a tuned Saab engine capable of producing 285 horsepower. With a top speed of 168 mph and a 0-62 time of 5.9 seconds, the sporty 2+2 coupe was designed to give an insight into future Saab designs. 
It even managed a cameo role in the 1980s cult film classic Back To The Future II. 
The only connection between both cars? Although the Saab EV-1 predates the Saab-General Motors partnership of 1989-2010, the Saab EV-1 uses seats from a Chevrolet Corvette. 
Saab Electric Postal Car
If you’re an electric car purist though, don’t despair. While the Saab EV-1 isn’t electric, one of the other cars up for auction week is. Dating from 1976, the all-electric Saab was used by the Swedish postal service and is described in the auction catalogue as “a challenge to get working.”
