Until Audi unveiled its concept e-Tron Spyder plug-in hybrid car at the 2010 Paris Auto show, the words diesel and sexy didn’t go well together.
Now the company has proven otherwise with the release of a short video showing the Audi e-Tron Spyder concept driving around sunny Malibu, California.
Filled with some beautiful shots of the plug-in diesel hybrid, the video is well worth a watch — although we found Audi’s official voice-over detailing more about its plans for the e-tron to be a little… dull.
And while the video doesn’t give much of a hint of how the Audi e-Tron Spyder performs at speed, its specifications do.
With twin electric motors developing 64 kilowatts of power at the front wheels, and a monster V-6, 300-horsepower TDI engine the e-Tron Spyder is no slouch, reaching 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph when operating as a plug-in hybrid, but switch to all-electric mode and the Audi e-Tron tops out at an agonizingly slow 37 mph, making the all-electric mode only good for city driving.
What do you think of the Audi e-Tron Spyder? Will you buy one if Audi brings it into production, or does its limited all-electric mode cripple what would otherwise be an awesome sports car?
