Mercedes-Benz has the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive, BMW has the upcoming Megacity Vehicle, and even Volkswagen is working on a production version of its E-Up concept car, but what about Audi? We know the automaker is establishing its new e-tron division to promote and develop a new generation of all-electric vehicles but so far the only models confirmed for production are two high-end electric sports cars.
According to a new report, Audi will have an entry-level electric vehicle designed for urban environments as well. The information comes from Audi CEO Rupert Stadler, who revealed to What Car? that an Audi minicar powered by an electric motor is planned.
“Almost certainly, yes, we will have a small electric car. It is being investigated,” Stadler revealed.
What the Audi boss didn’t reveal is whether the car will be based on the A1 platform or a new smaller car rumored to be called the Audi Zero. We have already seen the A1 e-tron concept vehicle but this model is much more premium than the expected BMW Megacity Vehicle and Smart Electric Drive.
Unfortunately, any launch date is still three to five years away.
