Every year the Green Car Journal presents an award to the top Green Car of the year. The award is decided by votes from a long list of people that include Jay Leno, Matt Peterson of Global Green USA, and Carl Pop of Sierra Club. Last year’s winner was the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI. The finalists for this year have been chosen.
The 5 finalists include 3 hybrids and 2 diesels. The hybrids making the list include the 2010 Toyota Prius, 2010 Mercury Milan Hybrid, and the 2010 Honda Insight. Non-hybrids include the Audi A3 TDI and Golf TDI.
This year’s winner will be announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show on December 3rd.
The finalists are selected from a list of numerous new models that stand out as environmentally friendly vehicles in more ways than one. A vehicle can qualify by having exceptional fuel economy, zero emissions, creative use of reclaimed or renewable materials and countless other environmentally conscious attributes.
This year’s finalists all excel in the category of fuel economy, while also offering the buyers expected amenities at a reasonable price.
We will let you know the winner after the selection has been made.
