The winner of the 2010 World Green Car award will be announced at the opening of the New York Auto Show in April and we will have to wait until then to see which vehicle prevails, but the list has now been narrowed down to only three remaining vehicles.
The top three finalists for the World Green Car award are the Honda Insight, the Volkswagen BlueMotion lineup of vehicle which includes the Golf, Passat, and Polo, and the Toyota Prius.
Despite recent recall issues, it seems likely that the Prius will bring home the award, but anything can happen over the course of voting. The Insight appears to be out of its league in this lineup due to less than stellar reviews and Consumer Reports actually classifying it as one of the worst Honda vehicles they have ever reviewed. The BlueMotion vehicles have a fitting chance of taking home the prize and it would not be considered an upset by any means if VW runs away with the award.
The selection process for the World Green Car began with multiple eligible vehicles which are listed below.
1. Honda Insight
2. Toyota Prius
3. Volkswagen BlueMotion
4. Ford Fusion Hybrid
5. Mercedes Benz S400 Hybrid
BMW 7
BMW X6 Active Hybrid
Hyundai Elantra (Avantes) LPI Hybrid
Kia Forte LPI Hybrid
Lexus HS 250h
Lexus RX 450h
Skoda GreenLine Series
Volvo 10 C30 BEV
The list of vehicles was then narrowed down to just five remaining finalists, numbered as one through five in the list above. The top three finalists now await the selection of the overall winner to be announced on April 1st.
