If you drive an electric car and call London’s Heathrow your home airport, we’ve got good news and bad news for you.
The good news is that the electricity to charge your electric vehicle while you travel on business or pleasure will be free, at newly installed airport charging stations.
The bad news is that parking that offers access to those charging points is not free. In fact, only the short-stay parking lot has the charging facilities, and as any frequent flyer knows, the short-term lot is the most expensive one at the airport.
At London’s Heathrow Airport, the short-term lot will cost you $78.50 (£50) per day, or $549.50 (£350) per week. That’s hardly an incentive to drive your electric car to the airport, especially when multiple forms of public transportation from London and its suburbs are easily accessed.
If London’s Gatwick Airport works for your travels, Auto Express explains that the airport also offers charging stations in its own short-term parking. The difference between Heathrow and Gatwick, however, is that Gatwick allows electric car drivers four hours of free parking while their cars are charging.
That won’t help much if you’re flying off for a multi-day trip, but at least “free” means “temporarily free” at Gatwick.
At Heathrow, “free” will cost you $78.50 per day.
