It may have reportedly canceled its two smallest plug-in car projects, but Audi is hardly abandoning electric cars.
Three months ago, the German luxury and sports brand said it would bring a limited test fleet of battery-electric Audi A3 hatchbacks to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Denver.
Now Audi has posted a two-minute video in which Audi’s in-house crew of test drivers based in Golden, Colorado, discuss their reactions to driving an all-electric car.
The “e-Pilots” remark on the silence, the lack of moving parts, the relative normality of the driving experience … and the fact that the A3 e-tron’s horn remains just as loud and aggressive as that of the standard car.
None of it is hugely revealing or surprising, but it does show them behind the wheel of the all-electric A3 model.
And one static shot shows a fleet of no fewer than 10 electric A3s.
The video also shows some spectacular Colorado scenery, much of it seemingly at sunset, along with remarkably fit, athletic-looking Audi staffers.
The Audi A3 e-tron shares the electric running gear of the Volkswagen Golf E, the first of which was delivered in California in February.
It consists of a 26-5-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack that powers an 85-kilowatt (114-hp) electric motor that produces 199 lb-ft of torque to drive the front wheels.
Maximum speed is limited to 90 mph.
Any production version of an electric A3 would come after the launch of the all-new 2014 Audi A3, which replaces the decade-old current model that’s in its last year of production.
