According to Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen, an electric vehicle based on the concept e-tron electric supercar will enter production and is expected to come to the U.S. in only 2 to 3 years. As de Nysschen said, “I expect we will see running examples in the next 24 months.”
The e-tron concept was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The vehicle features four motor, one at each axle, a range of 154 miles from the 53 kWh lithium-ion battery, and an astounding 3,319, lb.-ft of torque. The vehicle can reach 62 mph in 4.8 seconds and is limited to a top speed of 124 mph.
The concept vehicle measures in at 168 inches in length positioning it between the Audi TT and R8 in terms of size. The vehicle utilizes an advanced space frame setup and carries body panels made entirely of fiber reinforced plastic.
Audi will introduce the company’s first hybrid vehicle in 2011 with the e-tron based electric vehicle a year or so later.
