ChargePoint, which operates a network of public charging stations for plug-in electric cars, announced today that it would offer a home charging station this summer.
The ChargePoint Home, as it’s logically dubbed, has a sleek modern design–and it’s compact, at only about the size of a tablet device, the company says.

Announced today at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the home charging station can be installed inside or outdoors.

It uses the standard 240-Volt Level 2 J-1772 charging connector that’s familiar to all modern electric-car drivers.
One notable feature: It can be ordered with charging cords in several lengths, depending on the individual user’s needs and layout.
Cords will be offered in lengths of 12, 18, or 25 feet.
The ChargePoint mobile-phone app lets owners schedule charging remotely at their home station, as well as starting or stopping a charging session.
It will also issue reminders if a car hasn’t been plugged in to recharge, at the owner’s discretion.
Home station buyers will have to set up a ChargePoint account if they don’t already have one. That process is free; ChargePoint says it will collect only basic contact information for Home station users.
The dimensions of the station are 7 inches wide, 11 inches high, and the station itself is 4 inches deep mounted on a wall. With the connector docked, it’s just under 7 inches deep.

The station can charge at up to 32 Amps.
And, ChargePoint says, it will work with the Nest Learning Thermostat for homes that track and minimize energy usage and want to consume electricity at the lowest possible rates.
It will be sold online and through “a few other avenues that will come out in due time,” according to the company.
