The Tribecca Film Festival in New York City provided the backdrop to the world premiere of Revenge of the Electric Car — Chris Paine’s much-anticipated sequel to Who Killed The Electric Car? — but tomorrow the film will premiere in the Netherlands at a special event attended by a whole tree of Nissan Leafs.
The film had its European premiere last week at the 37th annual Deauville American Film Festival.
It follows the story of three very different auto executives and their firms as they strive to bring the electric car back from the brink of extinction, along with one electric car converter as he proves gasolline cars can be easily converted to electric power.
The executives are Carlos Ghosn of Nissan; Bob Lutz, from General Motors; and Elon Musk, of Tesla Motors. The converter is named Gadget.
But tomorrow night’s event isn’t just about premiering a film for electric-car owners. It’s about breaking a World Record for the largest number of Nissan Leafs assembled in one place at one time.
‘Revenge of the Electric Car’ premiere: 2011 Nissan Leaf
One hundred or more Nissan Leafs are expected to show up from all over the Netherlands and Europe, resulting in what we think might even be the largest number of electric cars ever gathered together.
Starting next month, Revenge of the Electric Car will start its U.S. cinema tour, visiting more than 20 cities this fall. You can check this link for details of screenings near you.
We wish the record-attempting Nissan Leaf owners good luck in tomorrow’s record attempt. We hope they’re more successful helping Nissan break a world record than the Japanese automaker has been in the past.
GreenCarReports was lucky enough to attend the New York premiere of Revenge of the Electric Car back in April. Be sure to check out our in-depth review of this highly acclaimed, but villain-free, docu-film.
