If you love the thrill of motor racing but the carbon footprint of Nascar and Formula 1 is getting you down then the decidedly lower-emissions all-electric racing offered by the 2011 EV Cup may be for you.
Conceived a few years ago and attracting entries from former competitors in The American Le Mans Series as well as Formula One British champion Damon Hill and  former BBC Top Gear Stig Ben Collins the first year of races have now been confirmed.
Starting in August this year, the EV Cup will hold with five races in Europe before finishing in the U.S., cumulating in a race at the California Speedway on December 17, 2011.
But don’t think the racing will just consist of one race per event. Each event will include races for each class, displaying everything from specially modified race versions of the 2011 Think City EV through to fully-race built Westfield iRacers and experimental one-off designs.
In addition to the California Speedway race, U.S. race fans will be able to see the race series at the iconic Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey California on November 26, just after Thanksgiving, the second all-electric racing event due to happen there this year.
Final details about the series and a list of competitors will be available shortly.
