Now reported widely around the web, Fisker Automotive seems to be near a deal to acquire General Motor’s Boxwood Road assembly plant in Wilmington, DE, where GM produced the Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice.  GM is discontinuing both the Saturn and Pontiac brands.
Fisker Automotive intends to build their next hybrid electric vehicle, currently known as Project NINA, at the Boxwood Road assembly plant.  The Department of Energy loaned Fisker Automotive $528 million to complete development on their current offering, the Fisker Karma and Karma Sunset, and develop their next vehicle, Project NINA, so part of the loan is clearly allocated to buying this assembly plant.
Earlier this week, Fisker Automotive’s Tier 1 supplier for their series hybrid propulsion system, Quantum Technologies, announced that they have developed a new 4wd, diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system for both military and commercial applications.  While Fisker Automotive is a joint venture between Fisker Coachbuild, LLC and Quantum Technologies, Quantum Technologies would likely sell their propulsion systems to most any automakers.
