Here’s a novel idea for you to mull over this weekend. For those feeling down about missing out on the opportunity to buy the all-electric 2011 Nissan Leaf there is now a Leaf-related activity that will make you feel a little better, while doing something positive for the environment.
Car dealership chain AutoNation is offering its Facebook fans the chance to have a tree planted on their behalf for free in one of four locations, funded by the auto retail giant.To take part, head to the Nissan Leaf fan page set up by AutoNation on Facebook and become a fan.
Fans can have a tree planted in India, Haiti, Brazil or the Philippines. Inspired by the launch of the 2011 Nissan Leaf the promotion is a collaboration between AutoNation and non-profit organization Trees For The Future. AutoNation has committed to planting up to 50,000 trees.
AutoNation has a prior interest in ecologically responsible cars. In 2007 it launched its Fuel Efficient E-Vehicle Program, aimed at helping consumers identify fuel efficient cars.
The Nissan Leaf pages on AutoNation’s Facebook site also contains a petition template to allow fans to petition their state and federal representatives to provide incentives to encourage the uptake of electric vehicles.
Just like the 2011 Nissan Leaf this scheme is likely to ‘sell out’ pretty quickly, so if you want to take part you should head over to the Facebook fan page now.
While it’s clearly part marketing gimmick and part green initiative, we think having a tree planted on your behalf is a fun way of sharing your love of both automotive and botanical leaves. And not feeling quite so bad if you can’t quite afford the automotive one.
