If you’re one of the small but loyal band of Think electric car owners in the U.S. and need some warranty work, we suggest you act soon.
Reports on the Think-Tank Facebook page for the car suggest the company hasn’t found a buyer, and could be gone for good by the end of this year.
User and former Think employee Lisa Cerdan posted a message on the group’s wall, saying that the senior management were unable to secure any investment.
She added that the only two Think employees left were given only three months notice–suggesting the company would shut its doors by the end of 2012.
There has been no word from the remnants of the company to confirm or deny the suggestion, but the consensus among owners is to ensure any work or upgrades are completed by the end of the year.
Lisa does suggest that the company bought in plenty of spares, presumably from external suppliers, so owners should at least be able to get hold of parts in the meantime.
Another user, Frank Smith III, says that there could still be a firmware update on the way, helping improve the car’s acceleration, and its ability to hold 70 mph up hills.
We reported back in August that the last few Think City electric cars were being finished off at Think’s Indiana plant–staffed by only two people.
Sources at the time said a Russian company had invested in the firm–but since then, the company has gone quiet.
As so often before, we seem to be watching the slow death of an electric automaker.
