In an effort to continue their dominance in the hybrid segment, Toyota will continue to expand its hybrid offerings with new models planned based on the Rav4, Lexus IS and Lexus GS model lines.
Within the next 10 years, Toyota has plans to make hybrid variants of all models within their lineup. Reaching that goal seems doable for the company as they continue to add more hybrid vehicles annually. The latest reports show that when newly redesigned version of the model listed above debut, hybrid powertrains will become part of the lineup.
The Lexus IS is scheduled for redesign a few years from now as is the Toyota Rav 4. The Rav 4 is expected to get a 4 cylinder hybrid setup similar to the Toyota Camry. The powertrain for the IS is unknown at this point, but we can expect a higher power output than most Toyota hybrid offerings.
In addition to the 2 models listed above, AutoCar is reporting that Lexus will also build a new SC with a hybrid option and the vehicle is scheduled to go on sale in 2014. This model will likely employ a V8 hybrid powertrain similar to the one used in the Lexus LS600h.
Toyota will continue their dominance in the hybrid market if they continue to produce more hybrid models than any other automaker. Their goal, set for 2020, includes hybrid variants of every model and they aren’t too far away from reaching it.
