Lexus is voluntarily recalling some of its now-discontinued HS 250h entry-level hybrid luxury sedans after it determined that incorrectly-adjusted components on the rear suspension arm could age prematurely and cause suspension failure.
According to its official release, the safety recall only affects 2010 model year Lexus HS 250h cars, approximately 18,000 of which were sold in the U.S.
The fault stems from nuts fitted to the rear suspension arm which Lexus believes may have not been tightened to the correct torque specifications following routine rear-wheel alignments.
Incorrectly tightened, Lexus warns that these nuts could result in excessive play on the threaded portion of the arm, causing rust to form.
In extreme cases, Lexus believes the rust could potentially cause excessive wear and ultimately, suspension arm separation.
At the moment, Lexus says it is developing a remedy to the issue.

Once it has decided on an appropriate resolution, Lexus will contact all registered owners by first class mail advising them to visit an authorized Toyota or Lexus dealer to have the remedy performed at no charge.
In addition to recalling the 2010 Lexus HS 250h, Toyota is also recalling approximately 760,000 Toyota RAV4s made between 2006 and 2011 for the same issue.
More information can be found on the Lexus recall website, or by telephoning Lexus on 1 800-255-3987.
