What has a drivetrain by the same Italian company that produces Ducati gearboxes, and an aluminum frame by the same manufacturer that supplies them to Aston Martin, Jaguar, and Volvo? I’ll give you a hint — it’s an electric vehicle manufactured at Finland’s Valmet Automotive factory, where the Porsche Boxster, Porsche Cayman, and Fisker Karma are built. Dr. Heinrich Petra, the mind behind BMW’s MINI project, is launching this vehicle, with company founders Søren Bak Hansen and Anders Lynge Kristensen.
It’s a golf cart.
No, I’m not kidding.
The Garia, conceived by its Danish design team in 2005, is likely, without exception, the finest golf car (I’m loathe to call it a lowly golf “cart”) in the world. No detail was too small to be matched with a superlative industry partner: the built-in fridge is produced by the same manufacturer that supplies them to Bentley and Maybach. The Garia also marks the first time a golf car has been manufactured at a high-end automotive factory. I haven’t seen one in person yet, but in all of the photos I’ve seen, it’s sleek… for a golf car. It’s available in eight standard colors, or you can pay a premium for any color of your choosing. You can even choose 10” or 12” wheels, and luxury upgrades such as a sandbox, the afore-mentioned built-in fridge, and a heated windshield. Garia is currently building their dealer network, but already has agreements with sellers across the globe, in Europe, The Americas, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
