New entry-level version EQB 250+ now costs 53,515 euros
Mercedes’ electric seven-seater SUV is getting a facelift. The visual changes are limited, but the basic model EQB 250 is no longer available. The remaining three variants have better power consumption and correspondingly higher ranges. The prices are now also fixed. Due to the elimination of the EQB 250, they now start at 53,515 euros (instead of 52,550 euros). The new entry-level version EQB 250+ was around 500 euros cheaper.
One of the visual innovations is that the black panel grill now shows a Mercedes pattern with lots of small stars. This version of the grill is optional and can only be seen on the red vehicle in the pictures. But this means that the Mercedes EQB should visually catch up with the larger EQE and EQS models. A new front bumper is also intended to emphasize the width of the car, and the taillights have also been modified. Interior changes include the current generation steering wheel with touch controls.
With the updated MBUX operating system, the appearance of the displays can now be adjusted more variably. In addition, the 10.25-inch touchscreen is now standard equipment. The sensors have also been improved. There is a new “mono multi-purpose camera” and a new rear camera. The active lane keeping assistant should now work more comfortably – with steering interventions instead of using the brakes. Only die-hard fans would probably notice all of this.
What’s more interesting to us is that Plug & Charge is now supported. All you have to do is plug in the cable and the charging process starts automatically on compatible columns. Authentication no longer takes place via app or charging card, but via the charging cable. What is also new is that for the first time there is a trailer hitch for the EQB with five seats; the trailer load is 1.7 tons.
Even if Mercedes doesn’t say a word about it in its press release: of the EQB’s four motor-battery combinations so far , the basic version has apparently been omitted. The EQB 250 no longer appears in the new price list. This leaves the rear-wheel drive EQB 250+ with a large 71 kWh battery and the two all-wheel drive vehicles, which in Germany have to make do with a 67 kWh battery.
As mentioned, the power consumption decreased slightly compared to the previous versions, and the range increased accordingly. The EQB 250+ version, which has the longest range, now covers 536 kilometers instead of 507 kilometers. This was achieved through aerodynamic optimization and tires with lower rolling resistance.
The new “range maximization” is also intended to reduce consumption. If this function is activated, energy saving tips appear on the touchscreen. Depending on the situation, a red line is also displayed on the speedometer, which corresponds to the maximum driving speed at which another charging stop can be avoided.
The EQB is still available as an optional seven-seater. The two seats in the third row are designed to accommodate people up to 1.80 meters tall. The second row of seats can be moved lengthways by 14 centimeters – also optionally.
The updated version of the EQB can be ordered from autumn 2023 and will reach European dealers at the beginning of 2024. The Mercedes EQA receives similar changes – as is known, it is based on the same platform (MMA).
