The Tesla Model X is set apart not only by its electric powertrain, but by several dramatic design flourishes.
These include the famous Falcon doors, as well as a windshield that extends up much further than on most cars.
But while it may make a statement, that expansive windshield is also causing problems for Model X owners.

The extra glass area can allow blinding amounts of sunlight into the interior, somewhat negating any benefit of having such a large windshield.
To address the problem, Tesla is shipping customers a fairly-low tech piece of hardware, according to Boy Genius Report.
It’s a removable mesh sunshade that fits onto the windshield above the rearview mirror.
2016 Tesla Model XThe sunshade clips to the Model X’s headliner, and can be folded up and stowed when not in use.
Tesla says it blocks two thirds of the light and heat that would otherwise come through the upper part of the windshield.
The new sunshade augments a pair of existing sun visors, which are already likely the most complicated of their kind in the industry.

Because the Model X’s headliner doesn’t extend down to the rearview mirror, there is no place to mount sun visors in the conventional manner.
So the visors are mounted on the A-pillar, and fold out when in use.
One end of each visor is attached to a multi-directional hinge, which allows it to swing out and pivot up and down.
2016 Tesla Model XThe other end has a magnet that attaches it to the A-pillar when stowed, or to rearview mirror when in use.
In addition to the apparent design-related issue of the windshield letting in excess light, the Model X has experienced multiple quality issues since going on sale.

That includes issues with the roof-hinged Falcon doors, with several early owners saying they could be somewhat unpredictable in operation.
Earlier this month, Tesla CEO Elon Musk promised updates for the network of sensors in the doors and their control software to address this.
