2011 Chevrolet Volt
The 2011 Chevrolet Volt range-extended electric vehicle will be upon us soon, very soon in fact, but for a few select markets, the Volt will arrive much earlier than elsewhere.
GM has confirmed that the Volt will be launched initially in California, Michigan and Washington D.C. this fall but according to a new report, New York City and Austin, Texas will also be included.
The reasoning is that New York is the nation’s biggest advertising market as well as being the place where most investors are focused, i.e. Wall Street. Austin, Texas, on the other hand, is one of the strongest markets for trucks and if the Volt can sell well there than it can likely do well anywhere else in the country. Another benefit of launching the Volt in these two markets is that GM will be able to test the Volt’s ability to operate in hot and cold regions.
GM CEO Edward E. Whitacre Jr. is expected to formally announce the plan later today so stay tuned for an update.
