We’ve covered Plug In America before on AllCarsElectric. The group is at the forefront of the EV movement in the U.S. and aims to promote usage of electric vehicles and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
Now, the group has released a series of humorous “Public Service Announcements” (PSAs) written and performed by a cast and crew of sixty individuals, many of whom are long term EV owners – some have driven EVs for as long as nine years.
The 30-second shorts are an interesting and amusing way of educating viewers on the benefits of plug-in vehicles, some of whom might have been turned off to the concept through either unfavorable press or lack of knowledge. The videos are sure to reassure those who think that an electric vehicle couldn’t meet their needs.
Two PSAs have been released so far, known as “Cell Phone” and “Ocean Crude”. Rather than spoiling the plots of these brief clips, you can check out the videos yourself below:
You’ll notice the familiar “Mac vs. PC” style to the videos, used here to great effect. The Mac character has now become the EV (you’d have guessed that though, we’re sure!) and the PC has become the hapless internal combustion engine. Amusingly, we made a similar comparison earlier this year, reasoning that the 2011 Nissan Leaf was a Mac and the Chevy Volt a PC.
Five more shorts will follow at roughly three week intervals over the next few months, so keep your eyes peeled on Plug In America’s YouTube channel. (//www.youtube.com/user/pluginamerica)
If you have a little more time on your hands, you can also watch a “making of” video for the Drive Electric PSAs. Check it out here or on Plug In America’s YouTube channel.
The idea is to dispel the train of thought that EVs are too expensive and not enough of a usable prospect for the future. Plug In America President Dan Davids says ““We’re at a historic turning point with the imminent delivery of the cleanest-running vehicles ever manufactured. Our most important job now is to educate consumers about their value. Our goal is rapid mass adoption.”
The production and acting team is well experienced in EVs, having owned everything from Tesla Roadsters through the Toyota RAV4 EV and even Plug In America executive committee member Jeff U’Ren. U’Ren not only has an Emmy under his belt, but was previously one of the GM EV1’s owners before the car met its demise.
We’ll be keeping watch for the subsequent Drive Electric PSAs, and you should too.
