French automaker Renault hasn’t sold nearly as many electric cars as its alliance partner Nissan.
But Renault has steadily increased its electric-car sales volumes, particularly in Europe, with its main focus on the subcompact Zoe hatchback.
That allowed the company to pass a notable milestone recently.
DON’T MISS: Nissan and Renault together now up to 340,000 electric cars built
On Friday, Renault delivered its 100,000th electric car, a Zoe delivered to a customer in Oslo, Norway.
This comes just under six months after Renault delivered its 50,000th Zoe to a customer from the Parisian suburb of Saint-Cloud.
The brand’s 100,000th battery-electric vehicle was delivered to 41-year-old Àsmund Gillebo, who received credits for free charging along with the car.

Electric cars currently make up a larger portion of new-car sales in Norway than any other country, thanks to generous incentives and well-developed charging infrastructure.
In addition to the Zoe, Renault currently sells the Kangoo ZE electric van, and the Twizy two-seat, low-speed electric vehicle.
It previously sold the Fluence ZE sedan developed for the now-bankrupt Israeli battery-swap startup Better Place in Europe as well, but that model is now sold solely in South Korea.

It is sold there as the SM3 ZE, under the Renault-Samsung brand name.
The Zoe is Renault’s most popular electric car by far, often challenging the Nissan Leaf for the top spot in European sales.
It is a dedicated electric model, but is somewhat smaller than its Nissan cousin—which has racked up more sales globally.

While Renault is just now reaching 100,000 sales across its entire electric-car lineup, the Leaf alone passed the 200,000-unit mark in December 2015.
Since the Leaf was launched in December 2010, Renault and Nissan together have built over 340,000 electric cars.

While the Leaf accounts for the vast majority of those sales, Renault has steadily increased its market share over the past year.
In the first half of 2016, it sold more than 15,000 electric cars (excluding the low-speed Twizy).

That’s an increase of 32 percent over the previous year, the company claims.
The Zoe was the best-selling electric car in Europe in 2015, and Renault claims it currently accounts for 23 percent of the electric-car market there.

Renault and Nissan’s impressive electric-car sales tallies are the result of the strong commitment the allied automakers have shown to plug-in cars over the past five years.
Both carmakers will need to maintain that momentum as other automakers get more serious about electric cars and introduce more volume models.
