Toyota has been criticized in media reports for their slow response to claims of accelerator pedal troubles that forced the company to recall millions of vehicles, but their response to the potential braking issues with the Toyota Prius can be considered immediate.  Toyota has already contacted dealers with a fix for the potential braking problems involving the 2010 Toyota Prius.  The fix was issued before a formal recall and is said to address a short lag time between the vehicles regenerative braking and friction braking changeover.
Toyota contacted dealers to notify them that the problem would be addressed by the company next week.  The entire fix will be released at that time and is speculated to involve a simple on-board computer reprogramming.
Government agencies in both the U.S. and Japan have received complaints regarding the braking performance of the 2010 Prius.  Complaints have reached nearly 200 at this time and the company is quickly responding to potential issues.
According to Toyota, they have identified a software flaw that has affected the braking performance of 270,000 2010 Toyota Prius.  With the flaw identified, the company is simply looking for the best way to rectify the situation.
Toyota vice president Bob Carter sent a mass email to dealers on Friday stating that word of the problem “has prompted considerable customer concern, speculation, and media attention due to the significance of the Prius image.  We are moving rapidly to provide a solution for your existing customers.”
