The 2016 Tesla Model S electric car will soon offer the 75-kilowatt-hour battery pack that debuted recently on the Model X crossover.
The addition was supposed to be announced later this week, but was revealed in an update of the California Air Resources Board (CARB) website Tuesday.
A 75-kWh Model S now appears in a list of cars eligible for the “white stickers” that grant solo carpool-lane access to electric cars and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles.

Tesla subsequently confirmed plans to offer a 75-kWh battery pack on the Model S to Jalopnik.
Unlike in the Model X, the 75-kWh pack will reportedly be offered alongside the existing 70-kWh pack.
Tesla substituted the larger pack in its all-electric SUV before any 70-kWh Model X crossovers were actually built.

The 75-kWh pack will add $3,000 to the current $72,700 (including destination) Model S base price.
Tesla expects the larger pack to add 19 miles of range compared to the 70-kWh pack.

While the largest 90-kWh battery pack is offered with all-wheel drive only, the 75-kWh pack may get the rear-wheel drive option.

The new battery-pack option arrives shortly after the announcement of a number of upgrades for the Model S.
