Sure, Porsche is planning an electric vehicle, but it won’t be in showrooms for years, and it probably won’t ever be as charming as this 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster. Jack’s Porsche uses 72 lithium-ion battery cells which store a maximum of 27.54 kWh of energy. That’s enough for about 85 to 100 miles of driving per charge. 0-60 takes seven seconds and the top speed is 85 mph. Charging the car takes six and a half hours from a 240 volt AC outlet if the batteries are completely depleted.
Although it looks retro, the electric motor isn’t the only modern upgrade. The original fuel/oil/temperature gage set houses an EVision display which provides the driver information about the battery. Other amenities include an AM/FM stereo, DVD player, backup camera, GPS Navigation, Bluetooth and an iPod adapter.
Jack insists that the EV drives better than the original, given the near perfect 50/50 weight distribution, low center of gravity (due in part to the 550 pounds of batteries), and the sprightly 2190 pound empty weight. Meet his reserve price and you can find out for yourself.
