The car will be presented without camouflage in the coming months
The station wagon version of the VW ID.7 is not called Variant like the Passat or Shooting Brake like the Arteon, but ID.7 Tourer. Volkswagen has now officially announced this. The brand also released images of the model in light camouflage. The final design will be presented “in the coming months”.
The new body variant will be launched in Europe in 2024. The low cW-Value of 0.242 is intended to ensure long ranges. For comparison: The normal VW ID.7 (i.e. the sedan with a large tailgate) is 0.234, so it has a slightly cheaper shape. However, the cW value does not allow a direct conclusion to be drawn about the wind resistance; because the frontal surface also goes into this.
Like all models in the ID family, the new body variant of the ID.7 is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB modular electrical system. The manufacturer promises a trunk volume of 545 to 1,714 liters. The loading space should be two meters long, writes VW. For comparison: 532-1,600 liters fit into the sedan. Like the ID.7 (and the ID.4), the ID.7 Tourer will be produced at the Volkswagen plant in Emden.
The pictures show the ID.7 Tourer in an Indian Summer wrap with autumn motifs. However, VW only published two pictures. QR codes at the rear are mentioned in the press release. But VW does not reveal what they are used for. Maybe they’re part of a viral marketing campaign. Peugeot recently launched such a campaign for the E-3008 : If you saw one of the prototypes, you should take a photo of the car and post it to win a test drive.
The colleagues from Motor1 Italy recently published two spy pictures of the ID.7 station wagon, showing the same car with identical foiling being loaded into a closed van
In any case, the exterior design of the ID.7 station wagon is no longer a big surprise. At least two Erlkönigs have already been photographed, one white and one gray.
VW isn’t revealing anything else about the technology, but the same drives and batteries will probably be installed as in the sedan. With the new 86 kWh battery and the also new 210 kW rear drive, it can travel up to 700 km. There is also a 210 kW rear-wheel drive in combination with the well-known 77 kWh battery and probably also a 250 kW all-wheel drive. The cockpit should also look exactly like the sedan:
Unfortunately, from updated sources, we probably won’t be able to admire the electric station wagon until 2024. What is certain is that due to its body shape and possibly up to 700 kilometers of range, it could persuade previous owners of a Passat Variant to switch.
