Toyota has taken its share of the beating from the press lately in regards to the accelerator pedal recall that has affected millions of vehicles, but the company’s troubles may still be far from over.  According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, the company may be on the brink of issuing yet another recall, this time for the brakes of the 3rd Generation Prius.
According to the Wall Street Journal report, the company has sold 311,000 units of the 3rd Gen. Prius, all of which could potentially be subject to the recall.  In light of the company’s recent problems, this story could certainly add to the negative headlines that the company has faced on a daily basis lately.
We presented a story a few days ago highlighting the potential problems associated with the Prius braking system.  The Japanese ministry of transportation has even called upon Toyota to launch a full scale investigation.  As the potential problem with the Prius brakes escalates and receives additional media coverage, it’s probably that the NTHSA will also want a full scale investigation performed by the company.
It’s believed that a relatively simple reprogramming of the on-board computer could fix the braking issue with the Prius, but this is unconfirmed until the company releases additional details.
We will continue to cover this story as it develops so stay tuned.  Hopefully Toyota and their stellar hybrid will remain atop despite the alleged braking issues.
